Content Design for Conversational Interfaces & Digital Experiences
Building better digital conversations – with clarity, empathy, and strategy
With a background in English Literature and Linguistics, and over 15 years of experience in digital content, I bring both analytical insight and creative nuance to every project. For the last 8 years, I’ve specialised in UX – shaping how content feels, flows, and functions across interfaces, from websites to voice assistants.

What I Do
I design content that feels natural – because it’s grounded in real human behaviour.
My expertise spans:
-
UX microcopy: Clear, contextual, and action-focused.
-
Long-form and SEO copy: Thoughtful, human-first content optimised for discovery.
-
Conversational design for bots and voice UIs: Including sentiment-aware responses, nuanced intent handling, and voice-specific training.
-
Social copy: Engaging, platform-aware, and brand-aligned.
-
Strategy: Grounded in emotional resonance, user intent, and behavioural insights.
Conversational AI is Different
A chatbot isn't just a text box. It's a live experience — and the content needs to reflect that. I approach conversational content with a deep understanding of:
-
User unpredictability: People will test bots, intentionally or not. That’s data we can use.
-
The power of last impressions: In conversation, what we hear last stays with us. That means structuring dialogue differently from written content.
-
Natural language: Based on how people actually speak — not just keyword matching.
-
Accessibility: Voice-first design supports users who can’t rely on visual cues, typing, or screen-based tools.
-
Honesty and trust: People often feel safer disclosing sensitive info to AI. The tone must be human, respectful, and never judgmental.
Why Voice and AI Matter
Voice is fast. It’s intuitive. It’s inclusive. And unlike many apps, it doesn’t need downloads or switching between screens. Whether you’re supporting users across devices or backing up live agents in regulated industries like healthcare and finance, a well-trained bot can make a big difference.

But for that to work, your AI needs content designed for how humans actually speak.
My Approach
-
Say you’re a bot – upfront and clear. Set expectations.
-
Offer other options – if someone needs a human, they should know how to get one.
-
Don’t make people feel stupid – be conversational, friendly, and helpful.
-
Design for intent, not just SEO – AI isn’t about keyword stuffing; it’s about understanding what users mean.
-
Teach the AI – not the user. Training content is strategic, and every user interaction is an opportunity to improve.
-
Support your team – AI can draft responses that agents can edit and send, saving time while keeping quality high.

Tim Barton, Small Engine Repair - Gracelands Garden
I contacted Nat to give me some UX consultancy on a site I had built.
I always though UX was a bit of a fuzzy marketing thing.
She went through the site, framed and prototyped everything up for me in Figma, changed copy, IA and explained the journey flow.

The site has converted much better since her suggestions, so I've changed my mind about UX!

Working with Nat has been an absolute pleasure.
She’s genuinely friendly, super easy to get on with, and took the time to really understand our industry.
The strategy and approach she came up with felt completely tailored to what we do at Blue Flame, which made the whole process smooth and effective.

Would 100% recommend

Natalie didn't bat an eyelid at what to me seemed like quite a daunting task, given my background as a mechanic!
She took on the role with gusto, and moved quicker than I was quite ready for!Natalie saw my confusion around creating a brief and recruiting the right people for the job - and effectively changed her role from 'advisor' to 'manager', whilst still taking the time to patiently, and often repeatedly, explain everything carefully to me.
She brought in specialists from her contacts and quickly built a small but very effective team of coders, graphic designers and marketers while performing an extra copywriting role herself (in addition to managing others, including me!)
I cannot recommend Natalie enough
